Lately I have been studying the truth…the truth about God, the truth about me, and the truth about God and me. This study has given me great moments of reflection. Reflections on who I think I am, how others perceive me, and how God sees me. Sadly, the columns seem rarely to agree…!
Who I Think (Delusional) I Am
1. Supermodel (what?! My husband thinks me beautiful!)
2. Betty Crocker (when I really want to put my mind to baking, I can follow any recipe!)
3. Martha Stewart (if I happen to have the right accessories on hand, I can wrap like a pro!)
4. Decorating Pro (it’s simple really…you see it in a home magazine and copy it in your own)
5. Loving Wife (I try so hard to be a perfect, Proverbs 31 wife…does she even exist?)
6. Woman of Prayer (well, whenever I get a moment of silence)
7. Model Mother (I love my children so why wouldn’t I be anything less than wonderful with them?)
8. Faithful Friend
How Others Perceive Me
(nearly accurate quotes taken from friends and family…ok, sometimes embellished a bit!
1. Miss Congeniality (“Mom, you’re not really cute…, but you’re a really good mom!”~my own dear Elsabells)
2. Betty Crocker Wannabe (“She keeps trying the same recipe hundreds of times just in hopes to someday experience what it is really supposed to taste like!” ~any one of the Cossette clan)
3. Martha Stewart Wannabe (“She has the magazines but I have yet to see her create anything that resembles what’s inside them!”)
4.One of a Kind Decorator (“Well, it’s your house so if that’s what you like…I just don’t like it!”~ dear Debbie)
5. Woman of Cares (“I know she has the desire but she lets so many worldly cares crowd her time”)
6. Wife, who is daily learning how to Love (“Honey, you’ll always be perfect for me!”~loving husband)
7. Average Mother (“Mom, remember when you told us to tell you when you weren’t correcting us in love…”~ Ellers)
8. Well Intended Friend (“She said she would call, She said she would have us over, She said…..”~any number of my friends)
Obviously, the above descriptions were written tongue in cheek! No matter how hard I try I’ll never be Betty Crocker. The truth is, Betty Crocker doesn’t even exist…she was brought into existence back in 1921 as a composite sketch of several female General Mills workers. In February 1996, on the 75th anniversary of her creation, Betty Crocker experienced her eighth reincarnation, this time as a computer morph which digitally combined facial features from seventy-five real women!! There isn’t one among us who is everything we hope we are but we know that we are always becoming everything that God wants as He works in our lives!
How God Sees Me
1. Treasured Possession
2. Child of God
3. Princess, daughter of King of kings
4. Earthen Vessel
5. Prodigal Daughter
6. Made in His image
7. Work in Progress…
1 Corinthians 1:8 “He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”)
