:My closet overfloweth. It's primary use to store clothes is threatened with the storage of beautiful outfits I rarely wear. Saris, salwar kameez, and similar Indian dresses in kids' sizes have begun to collect dust piled on shelves waiting for the annual opportunity to wear them. Seeing the yards and yards of gorgeous silk just sitting there, I decided to transform a few of them into dresses that I could actually wear more than occasionally.
Progress is good though slower than I would like on account of me being a novice seamstress. I've mostly worked freehand and managed to make a few but finally bought a pattern last week that I hope will help transfer my vision from my head and into my hands.
Someday I hope to debut them in public, once the final kinks have been worked out. Until then, I took a new simple cardigan and revamped it with a little silk from an old sari. Over the years I have become so proud of this other half of our family's heritage and glad that I've finally found a small way to bridge the gap between my amma's old world style and my new.
Now, if only I could find a way to recreate her labor intensive cooking with my convenient to-go approach... :)
